About The Position

Grinders move metal objects such as castings, billets, machine parts, sheet metal subassemblies, or arrowheads, against abrasive wheels of bench grinders to grind, smooth, or rough finish objects to specifications by performing the below responsibilities.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to apply sound judgment and understanding to carry out one-to-two-step instructions.
Capacity to deal with standardized situations.
Grinders are regularly required to stand 100% of their shift and frequently required to walk.
Uses all of their upper (i.e., hands, arms, etc.) to complete molds.
The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hearing protection, steel toe metatarsal shoes/boots, & safety glasses must be worn while on the production floor and performing this role.

Responsibilities

Clamps workpiece in work holder, jig, or holds it in hand, and feeds it against rotating grinding wheel to remove excess metal, scratches, or burs.
Examines or measures workpieces for conformance to standards.
Guides dressing tool across the wheel to the true surface.
Replaces worn wheels.
Selects and mounts abrasive wheels of different grit sizes to a grinder to obtain specified finish on workpieces.
Starts pump and directs coolant flow against wheels.
