About The Position

The Grief Group Facilitator plays a vital role in providing compassionate support and guidance to individuals navigating the complex emotions associated with loss and bereavement. This role involves creating a safe, empathetic, and structured environment where participants can share their experiences and begin the healing process. The Facilitator will work closely with participants to help them develop coping strategies and foster resilience during their grief journey. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with mental health professionals and community resources to ensure comprehensive support. The facilitator will design and lead group sessions that encourage open communication, mutual support, and coping strategies tailored to diverse grief experiences. By fostering connection and understanding among group members, the facilitator helps reduce feelings of isolation and promotes emotional resilience. Ultimately, the Grief Group Facilitator plays a vital role in promoting emotional healing and well-being within the community. May require some local travel (reimbursable). This position is in-person.

Requirements

  • Must become a Certified Mandated Reporter. Training provided.
  • Must pass a background check, must not have any pending cases.
  • Must pass a Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System background check.
  • Must pass a National Sex Offender Registry background check.
  • Must have a working phone and phone number.
  • One year experience working in the human services field in a capacity that involves direct services to at-risk youth.
  • Cross-cultural competency.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience facilitating support groups or counseling sessions, preferably in grief or bereavement contexts.
  • Strong skills with understanding of grief processes, bereavement theories, and emotional support techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to foster trust and rapport with the ability to facilitate group discussions effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sensitivity to diverse cultural and personal backgrounds.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must be willing to be trained and proficiently utilize database(s) and information tracking systems relevant to duties.
  • Must keep confidentiality of participant information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license, insurance, good driving record, access to a vehicle. Subject to driving background check.
  • General knowledge of sports.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead grief support group sessions that accommodate the needs of diverse participants.
  • Facilitate grief support group sessions by guiding discussions and encouraging open communication among participants.
  • Provide emotional support and active listening to group members, validating their feelings and experiences.
  • Develop and implement group activities and educational materials that promote coping skills and emotional resilience.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all participants.
  • Collaborate with mental health professionals, social workers, and community organizations to coordinate additional resources and referrals.
  • Document session summaries and participant progress while maintaining accurate records in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay informed about best practices in grief counseling and support.
  • Assures staff participation in information sessions to explain expectations, roles, and responsibilities of participants.
  • Produces documents, receipts and correspondence regarding activities and progress as necessary for consistent evaluation of program and timely report submittal.
  • Supervision includes on-site visits, regular check-ins, and break-out planning meetings.
  • Assures documentation of all participant contacts and services provided and assists data team and development team with data collection and required reporting.
  • Documents detailed participant case-notes and other items as assigned.
  • Demonstrates New Life Centers’ values.
  • Attends required meetings and trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
