About The Position

Midland Care Connection Midland Care Connection is a not-for-profit, community-based organization in Topeka, Kansas, dedicated to helping older adults and seriously ill individuals stay independent and supported in their homes. Established in 1978, we offer a full continuum of care, including hospice, palliative care, home health, grief and loss counseling, and our signature PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) program. Our mission centers on "meeting individual needs through innovative care solutions," and we serve people across multiple counties in northeast Kansas. Center for Hope & Healing Midland Care Connection’s Center for Hope & Healing provides compassionate grief and loss support for individuals, families, and children coping with the death of a loved one. The program offers individual and group counseling, family support, and specialized services such as children’s grief groups, Healing Hearts Grief Camp, and seasonal programs like Surviving the Holidays. Many services are offered at no cost or on a sliding fee scale, with care provided by trained professionals in a supportive, healing environment. Bereavement Counselor Provides compassionate support to individuals and families who are coping with the death of a loved one. Through the Center for Hope and Healing, they help people process grief and loss by offering individual counseling, family sessions, and group support tailored to each person’s needs. Services are available for adults and children and typically include emotional support, education about the grieving process, and opportunities to share experiences in a safe, supportive environment. Midland Care’s grief services may be provided one-on-one, in groups, or through specialized programs like youth grief camps, and they are available to the community even if the loss was not connected to Midland Care’s hospice services.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a closely related field
  • Current licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of Kansas (e.g., LMSW, LCSW, LPC, LCPC)
  • Experience providing counseling or support services to individuals and families
  • Strong knowledge of grief, loss, and bereavement processes
  • Ability to provide compassionate, culturally sensitive care to diverse populations
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team

Nice To Haves

  • Specialized training or certification in grief and bereavement counseling
  • Experience working in hospice, palliative care, or end-of-life settings
  • Experience facilitating grief support groups
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and families
  • Familiarity with community-based services and outreach programs
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills
