The Greenskeeper I position is responsible for the upkeep of the golf courses, including the turf and surrounding grounds, under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendents.

Requirements

  • Valid state driver’s license with driving record in good standing.
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands to handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to use hand tools, trimming tools, power tools, and mowing equipment.
  • Must be able to work long hours and flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain and humidity.
  • Present a positive, professional image, be self-motivated and have reliable and predictable attendance.
  • Demonstrate the capability to function as a member of a team to accomplish established goal.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience and knowledge of grounds work is preferred.
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the game of golf, its rules and expected playing conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate hand mowers on greens, aprons, tees, fairways, rough, lake banks, around tees and grounds.
  • Exercise extreme care not to injure turf and shrubs.
  • Practice safety while operating equipment and report equipment or course issues immediately.
  • Edge cart paths, flymo bunker faces, string trim lake banks and around tees, edges and rakes sand bunkers.
  • Complete jobs and clean up the work area as required.
  • Excavate and backfill trenches with hand tools, operate utility vehicles as required.
  • Ensure all necessary and supplied safety equipment (glasses, ear plugs, hard hats) is worn while operating equipment and hand tools, and that all tools and equipment are properly cleaned, stored and maintained as required.
  • Clean machines after use and make minor adjustments to the equipment under the supervision of the mechanic.
  • Maintain fuel and fluid levels for all types of equipment on a daily basis and before use, inspect equipment before use and report problems or failure to the supervisor immediately.
  • Stay on cart paths where available and avoid further impacting high traffic areas.
  • Help in project work as directed.
  • Pick up trash and debris while performing job duties.
  • Be courteous and conscientious of golfers and homeowners.
  • Practice safety on the job, including performing job tasks with little or no disruption to members and guests playing the golf course, returning all equipment to the designated location, and keeping maintenance areas clean and free of clutter.
  • Mow turf using tractors, ride-on machines and specialist hand mowers.
  • Apply detail to courses, including edging of cart paths, flymo bunker faces, string trim lake banks and around tees; edges and rakes sand bunkers.
  • Use environmentally friendly turf treatments to control weeds, fungal diseases and pests when instructed to do so by supervisors or management.
  • Renovate and maintain bunkers and other hazards, such as water features.
  • Apply irrigation and attend to drainage problems.
  • Provide upkeep and fueling of golf course maintenance equipment, machinery and tools, including checking fluid levels before operating any machine, reporting any abnormalities discovered while operating machinery to a supervisor, and washing, refueling and returning all equipment to the designated location.
  • Maintain trees, bushes, shrubs and other native plants.
  • Excavate and backfill trenches with hand tools, and operate utility vehicles as required.
  • Pick up trash and debris, and blow cart paths with back pack blowers.
  • Perform any and all job duties in a safe and efficient manner.
