About The Position

Pluton Biosciences is seeking a part-time Research Assistant to support the Molecular Biology team in greenhouse and field research focused on developing microbial products for agriculture. The role involves hands-on experimentation, data collection, and collaboration with team members to advance research objectives aimed at enhancing soil health and mitigating climate change.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biological sciences, or a related field.
• 2+ years of laboratory, greenhouse, and/or field work experience.
• Reliability and a strong work ethic.
• Ability to work a predefined schedule of 15-20 hours per week with and without direct supervision.
• Basic understanding of microbiology, soil science, and greenhouse, field, and laboratory techniques.
• Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.

Nice To Haves

• Greenhouse, growth chamber, and horticultural experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Project Lead in testing microorganisms and plants under various greenhouse conditions.
• Prepare soil, potting soil, and perform planting/inoculations, watering, and monitoring experiments.
• Design and execute field trials, including layout, randomization, and sampling during experiments.
• Set up custom irrigation or camera systems for field work as needed.
• Contribute to experimental procedures, analyses, and design in greenhouse and field settings.
• Operate laboratory and greenhouse equipment, including environmental monitoring and irrigation systems.
• Communicate experiment status with the project lead and team members, attending remote and in-person meetings.
• Work independently while collaborating with a remote team.
• Observe safety and regulatory procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
• Record and present research results accurately via electronic notebook.
