The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is seeking undergraduate students who are eager to gain hands-on practical experience in the construction field through an internship program. This opportunity is designed for students who are open to learning and contributing to various aspects of construction project management. Interns will assist project teams in managing construction projects from the bidding phase all the way to final completion. The internship will involve assignments in both office and job site environments, and interns may be required to relocate to remote sites as necessary. Transportation is a requirement for this position, and work periods will typically last between 10 to 12 weeks, with a commitment of 40 hours per week. In certain situations, housing may be provided for interns. Interns will report to a project manager, superintendent, project engineer, or field engineer, depending on their specific work assignment. The tasks assigned to interns will encompass a variety of engineering and technical aspects of the projects, allowing them to gain valuable experience both in the field and in the office. Interns will engage in activities such as quantity take-off, layout, preconstruction and as-built surveys, shop drawing review and approval, submittal review and maintenance of logs, and responding to subcontractor RFIs. They will also interface with subcontractors and suppliers, attend weekly progress meetings, and assist in coordinating work between the owner, architect, and subcontractors. Additionally, interns will be involved in the bid process, reviewing construction documents and specifications, maintaining field records, assisting with estimates, budgets, and value engineering, and preparing billings to the owner. They will also assist in the approval of invoices, ordering and expediting materials, scheduling updates, quality control, safety measures, and project closeout activities. This internship is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their skills and knowledge in the construction industry while working alongside experienced professionals.
