About The Position

The Grasshopper Director is responsible for the direct supervision, coordination, and daily operations of the Grasshopper Lawn Service Program. The program provides lawn mowing, limited tree trimming or cutting, and debris removal services to eligible tribal members who are 62 years of age or older and/or disabled. The Director oversees lawn mower technicians, ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently, and respectfully to the community. The position is responsible for scheduling services, maintaining equipment and supplies, supervising personnel, managing service requests, and ensuring program operations follow Comanche Nation policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in supervision, workforce programs, landscaping, grounds maintenance, or a related field.
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License with a good driving record.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including a multiline telephone system, copier, scanner, and fax machine.
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding employee and client information.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently.
  • Must be able to pass drug screening and criminal background check.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and be insurable under tribal insurance policies.
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies and provide on-call support when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and coordinates the daily activities of lawn mower technicians participating in the Grasshopper Program and may have to assist in cutting grass and trees.
  • Interviews, recommends, and assists with the hiring of Grasshopper personnel in accordance with Comanche Nation hiring policies.
  • Develops and maintains employee work schedules and assigns service routes to technicians.
  • Dispatches service calls received from tribal members requesting lawn mowing, limited tree trimming/cutting, and debris removal services.
  • Ensures services are delivered to eligible clients in a timely and professional manner.
  • Oversees the safe performance of lawn mowing, yard maintenance, tree trimming/cutting, and removal of yard debris such as fallen limbs, brush, and yard waste.
  • Processes employee timesheets and verifies hours worked for payroll submission.
  • Maintains accurate employee personnel files and program documentation.
  • Orders and maintains equipment, supplies, and replacement parts necessary for lawn maintenance equipment including lawn mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, and other yard maintenance tools.
  • Ensures proper maintenance, repair, and safe operation of all program equipment.
  • Monitors staff performance and ensures compliance with workplace safety practices.
  • Maintains communication with program participants and clients to address service needs or concerns.
  • Prepares monthly program reports.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned by the Tribal Administrator.
  • Ensure program services prioritize elderly and disabled tribal members in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Promote respectful and professional interaction between staff and community members receiving services.
  • Monitor staff adherence to workplace safety procedures, including proper equipment use.
  • Ensure lawn maintenance and tree cutting equipment is maintained in safe and operational condition.
  • Coordinate with the Tribal Administrator regarding program needs, staffing issues, or service demand.
  • Maintain accountability for program resources, equipment, and service records.
  • Support the mission of the Comanche Nation Workforce Program by promoting employment opportunities and skill development for program participants.
  • Ensuring that all lawn maintenance equipment, tools, chainsaws, and supplies assigned to the program are properly tracked, maintained, and used according to safety guidelines.
  • Ensure that employees receive instruction on safe equipment operation and proper use of protective equipment when performing lawn mowing, tree trimming, or debris removal.
  • Maintain inventory records of program equipment and report lost, damaged, or malfunctioning equipment to the Procurement & Property Director.
  • Ensure that equipment is stored securely when not in use and that routine maintenance schedules are followed.
  • Report any incidents involving equipment damage, injury, or unsafe working conditions promptly in accordance with Comanche Nation workplace safety policies.
  • Ensuring they are used for authorized program purposes only and in compliance with Comanche Nation vehicle policies.
  • Ensure employees operating vehicles or equipment have appropriate authorization and training.
  • Maintain Vehicle usage logs, mileage records, and maintenance schedules when applicable.
  • Report any accidents, vehicle damage, or misuse of vehicles or equipment immediately to the Procurement Director and follow established reporting procedures.
