About The Position

Design the mission—one visual at a time. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is seeking a skilled and creative team member to join the Public Information Office as a Graphic Designer. The Graphic Designer supports department-wide marketing, recruitment, education, and public information initiatives by developing and producing high-quality visual design materials that advance the agency’s mission.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of design and visual design concepts and practices pertinent to the area of responsibility.
  • Thorough knowledge of organizational principles of design and visual art elements and their application to professional visual communications.
  • Ability to conceptualize and create visual design solutions, from initial concept development through final product delivery.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, managing priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients and customers by listening, understanding, and responding to client and customer needs.
  • Requires a valid North Carolina Driver’s License and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle as assigned by the Department.
  • Qualified recommended applicant(s) must undergo and successfully pass: Criminal Background Investigation Drug Screening Test
  • Bachelor’s degree in visual/graphic design, commercial art, or a related area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution; OR Associate’s degree in visual/graphic design, commercial art, or a related area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of experience related to the area of assignment; OR High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four (4) years of experience related to the area of assignment; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and produce professional graphic design assets to support department-wide recruitment, education, marketing, and public information initiatives.
  • Create and execute visual communications across multiple formats, including digital, print, and presentation materials, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and messaging.
  • Apply and enforce established brand identity standards consistently across all creative deliverables to maintain visual integrity and public trust.
  • Collaborate with the Public Information Office and cross-functional stakeholders to translate communication objectives into effective visual solutions.
  • Manage multiple design projects concurrently, from concept development through final production, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timeliness.
  • Provide creative consultation and support to SHP sections, leadership, and program areas to ensure cohesive visual communication across platforms.
  • Ensure quality control of all graphic design work, reviewing content for clarity, consistency, and adherence to branding and communication standards.
