About The Position

The Graphic Designer at The Strong is a key member of the marketing team, responsible for creating and producing graphic materials that align with the museum's brand standards. This role involves collaboration with various departments to support the museum's mission and programs, ensuring a cohesive visual identity across all platforms. The designer must be a strategic thinker with a keen eye for detail, capable of managing multiple projects while adhering to budget constraints and deadlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or a closely related field.
  • 1-2 years of graphic/creative industry experience.
  • Demonstrable artistic and innovative work that solves business challenges.
  • Proficient understanding of brand guidelines for effective execution.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to changes professionally and courteously.
  • Knowledge of media production, positioning, and messaging techniques.
  • Strong creative thinking and ability to generate innovative ideas.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to balance empathy and objectivity.
  • Strong time management skills to meet deadlines and maintain schedules.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the design and production of graphic materials for advertising, promotional materials, visitor materials, and event collateral.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to ensure alignment with project objectives and deadlines.
  • Develop high-impact social media graphics and campaigns in partnership with the marketing coordinator.
  • Work with the exhibit's graphic designer on internal signage and cohesive brand materials.
  • Collaborate with the museum's creative agency to develop marketing and advertising assets.
  • Uphold the museum's brand messaging and identity standards, ensuring consistency and quality across projects.
  • Present design concepts persuasively to project leaders and marketing staff.
  • Ensure timely completion and high quality of assigned projects while adhering to budget requirements.
  • Maintain positive communication and collaboration with staff, guests, and vendors.
  • Participate in the design of museum publications, including the American Journal of Play.
  • Stay current on industry best practices, accessibility guidelines, and trends in graphic design.
  • Train and supervise temporary staff, interns, and volunteers in creating graphic elements.
  • Participate in the development and achievement of annual marketing and museum-wide goals.
