TITLE: Graphic Desiger, Newcomer Youth Summer Academy LOCATION: Hybrid START DATE: February 1, 2026 DURATION: until August 14, 2026 POSITION REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Education DETAILS: varies 4-15 hours/week (flexible scheduling) SCOPE OF WORK: The Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA) is a six-week program focusing on preparing newly arrived refugee youth to succeed at their grade level in the New York City public school system. Up to 130 students from ages 5 – 21 from over 20 countries will participate in academic, creative arts, physical education, and life skills classes. Field Trips are held on Fridays. The Graphic Designer will design and put together NYSA Yearbook and other NYSA design assets, working in collaboration with the Yearbook Coordinator and volunteer NYSA Photographer(s). The Graphic Designer will work part-time as needed on-site at the Summer Academy and participate in project meetings at the IRC in NY office. The Graphic Designer will work collaboratively with the Yearbook Coordinator and Photographers, assist with yearbook responsibilities, and meet the required yearbook deadlines.

Requirements

Graphic Designer with at least one year experience
Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
Flexible, and able to solve problems
Cultural competence and cross-cultural or overseas experience required
Strong experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
Consent to the yearbook as being the sole property of the IRC, not to be used by the graphic designer without IRC permission.
Must be located in the United States, preference to candidates who can work on site in New York City

Responsibilities

Create assets for NYSA 2026 brand identity that incorporate the annual theme (PRIDE), values (Positivity, Responsibility, Innovation, determination, Empathy) and mascot. This includes a T-shirt design, slide deck templates, classroom posters and more.
Develop concept(s) for the NYSA yearbook design and layout
Produce the design & layout within the timeframe laid out
Insert photos into layout and produce final for printing
Communicate and coordinate regularly with the team to ensure that yearbook related activities take place according to schedule, and any scheduling or other conflicts/issues are worked out in a timely manner
Receive and integrate feedback
Work with team to ensure accuracy of all elements of the yearbook (pictures are properly labeled and placed)
Attend NYSA training (June 29 – July 2)
Provide all files to IRC
