About The Position

Applied Research Laboratories, The University of Texas at Austin (ARL:UT)'s Strategic Communications Office (SCO) is seeking a Graphic Design Student Assistant. This is a part-time position during the academic semester, with the potential for full-time hours over the summer. The student will primarily assist with graphic design tasks for organizational events and display projects, gaining valuable experience in visual storytelling and design production. As a key member of the design team, the student will collaborate closely with a senior graphic designer and a design/archival technician to create visual materials for both physical and digital displays, event branding, and other design-related projects. The position offers the opportunity to build a personal design portfolio, including a capstone project over the summer.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field (or have a strong interest in these areas)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • US Citizen.
  • Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the design team on event materials, promotional content, and other design projects.
  • Work with the senior designer to develop design concepts and refine creative ideas.
  • Partner with the design/archival technician to create historical displays that highlight the organization’s rich history.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
