About The Position

The Grants Manager is a mission-driven fundraising professional who plays a critical role in advancing Seattle Humane’s work to create a kinder world for pets and their people. This position leads the identification, pursuit, and stewardship of grant funding from private foundations, corporate partners, and other institutional funders. Working collaboratively across departments, the Grants Manager develops compelling proposals and reports, maintains strong funder relationships, ensures compliance with grant requirements, and supports donor communications that clearly demonstrate impact. This position is responsible for supporting the $900,000 annual goal for grants with expected growth year over year. As part of Seattle Humane’s Development team, this role helps turn shared values into meaningful philanthropic support that sustains essential programs and fuels organizational growth. You’ll partner closely with colleagues across the organization to align fundraising efforts with strategic priorities and community needs. Requirements

  • Required minimum 3 years of experience in grants management, grant writing, or related fundraising functions.
  • Strong track record of writing successful proposals and managing reporting requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including storytelling and persuasion.
  • Experience with fundraising databases (e.g., Raiser's Edge) and comfort with data tracking and analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Passion for nonprofit work and alignment with Seattle Humane’s mission is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and research new institutional funding opportunities that align with Seattle Humane’s strategic priorities and program needs.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of grant prospects and coordinate tracking and reporting of deadlines, submissions, and outcomes.
  • Lead the full grant writing process, including drafting proposals, budgets, attachments, and other required materials.
  • Partner with program staff to gather project information and ensure proposals reflect programmatic goals and impact.
  • Ensure that all submissions are accurate, compelling, and aligned with funder guidelines and organizational priorities.
  • Manage all grant reporting timelines and produce timely, high-quality impact reports, budget reconciliations, and donor updates.
  • Develop clear and engaging reporting materials that communicate outcomes and strengthen institutional relationships.
  • Work closely with Development leadership and the Finance team to develop project budgets and financial reporting for proposals and awards.
  • Collaborate with program partners across the organization to ensure alignment between funded activities and organizational goals.
  • Maintain ongoing communications with institutional donors and funders, tracking engagement and cultivating long-term support.
  • Support stewardship activities and contribute to broader Development initiatives as needed.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of grant submissions, awards, communications, and financial information in fundraising databases (e.g., Raiser's Edge).
  • Maintain a comprehensive library of proposals, reports, templates, and commonly used materials for future use.
  • Produce other written development materials as needed, including internal summaries, presentations, and donor communications.
  • Perform other duties and contribute to team initiatives as assigned.
