About The Position

The Grants Manager A (Pre-Award) at Penn Engineering is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the preparation, review, and submission of sponsored program research proposals. This position operates under limited supervision and requires a comprehensive understanding of the grant application process from the initial direction provided by Principal Investigators (PIs) through to the final submission to the respective sponsors. The Grants Manager will prepare accurate budgets and budget documentation, ensuring compliance with current and future salary structures and other cost elements. Familiarity with the regulations of sponsoring agencies such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and Department of Defense (DOD) is essential, as is a thorough understanding of University policies related to budget development. In this role, the Grants Manager will be expected to advise PIs on the preparation of proposal files using various platforms including PennERA, NSF Fastlane, NIH Commons, Grants.gov, and others. Maintaining checklists of necessary components based on sponsor guidelines is crucial, as is the ability to communicate effectively with faculty and the Office of Research Services (ORS) and Penn Center for Innovation (PCI) to manage tight timelines. The Grants Manager will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records of proposal files and current and pending support files, as well as assisting in the training and orientation of new staff members. The position requires a proactive approach to managing deadlines and adapting to last-minute changes, ensuring that all submissions are completed accurately and on time. This role is integral to the success of research initiatives within the School of Engineering and Applied Science, contributing to the overall mission of Penn Engineering to foster innovation and excellence in research.
