About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Grants Development Specialist secures external funding from public and private sources for Springfield Technical Community College and the Springfield Technical Community College Foundation through proposal writing, submission, and procurement. The Specialist facilitates teams of faculty, staff, and external partners along the entire grants development process. As a part of the Academic Affairs team, the Specialist assists with Grants department planning and communication, as well as promotion of the STCC mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with three (3) years' experience and/or training that includes grant writing, research, and project planning/development; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience developing grant project budgets.
  • Experience facilitating teams (i.e., faculty, staff, administrators, funding agency representatives, external partners, and grant writers from other institutions) on the development and synthesis of cohesive grant proposals.
  • Track all correspondence, submissions and reports in the Grants database.
  • Experience working within and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent writing, conceptual, oral communication, organizational, and facilitation skills.
  • Experience, willingness, and ability to work effectively with diverse teams of faculty, staff, students, and external partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree with experience working in community colleges, other higher education institutions or workforce/economic development organizations
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects with a diverse team
  • Experience developing or working with evaluation models (logic models, theory of practice)
  • Experience developing grant proposals for projects with a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) focus.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director and Manager of Grants Compliance, proactively identify, assess the feasibility of, research, and pursue public and private grant opportunities that match the mission of the College and STCC Foundation.
  • Develop and write proposals, letters of inquiry and other correspondence to government agencies, foundations, corporations and other national and regional entities for submission through web-based portals, email, and mail.
  • Facilitate the work of grant project development teams including faculty, staff and external partners (when applicable) in the completion of grant proposals
  • Negotiate agreements and budgets with grant project development teams; secure letters of commitment and Memorandum of Agreements.
  • Research and identify trends and best practices within community colleges, higher education, workforce development, and other relevant fields. Work with Institutional Research staff on grants data needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all pre- and post-grant policies and procedures.
  • Promote the college's mission and needs with funding agencies and foundations. Assist with implementation of the communication plan of the Grants Office.
  • Perform College Service: play an active role in campus-wide committees, and community advising groups. Perform administrative tasks associated with department activities
