About The Position

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Community Partnerships and Investments (CPI) Grants Compliance Senior Specialist provides subject matter expertise in grant compliance, return on investment, and in maintaining standards of performance. The Grants Compliance Senior Specialist enhances the impact evaluation-strategy and process and framework of the philanthropy portfolio to ensure that the most responsible investments and outcomes are reached to further the WWP mission. This grant auditor role is charged with managing back-end grants administration operations and will have global awareness of the grants awarded across Wounded Warrior Project programs to ensure good stewardship of funds, adherence to grantmaking workflow processes and procedures, program alignment, and accountability among WWP partners.

Requirements

  • Six years of experience grant-making, strategy consulting, impact investing, financing, program metrics, and philanthropic capital or grants.
  • Four years of experience in program metrics.
  • Three years of experience in nonprofit business operations and contract funding mechanisms.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise in grant compliance to assist in holding grantees and partners accountable to high return-on-investment (ROI) standards in program outcomes, outputs/deliverables, and other key metrics.
  • Review all partner contracts and serve as the internal expert on grant compliance.
  • Design and execute monitoring processes, including conducting file audits, assessments, documenting results, and analyzing data trends.
  • Manage administration of the grant cycle from application to closing, coordinating efforts across vetting teams (Finance, Legal, and Communications) and program teams to ensure that grant requirements are met.
  • Manage grantee contract requirements and performance.
  • Collaborate with WWP Legal team to design grant agreements, amendments, and other requirements to ensure all proper documentation is collected throughout the grant term.
  • Work with Program staff to develop and implement processes to ensure grant compliance.
  • Collaborate with WWP Finance and Accounting team to assess the financial health of potential grantees and partners and collect necessary documentation for the vetting teams.
  • Review and evaluate grantee reports to perform grant due-diligence procedures and identify potential concerns, risks, and opportunities.
  • Lead the implementation of and ensure adherence to internal grantmaking workflow processes and procedures.
  • Co-author intent-of-funding documents that outline return on investment outcomes and expectations.
  • Provide investment recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Maintain grant records; monitor and report on grant strategy budgets, and ensure compliance with WWP's investment strategy.
  • Track proper investment administration, including outcome-based metrics, and prepare reports to leadership.
  • Generate database and budget reports on a regular basis for leadership.
  • Ensure that the grants management database is accurate and meets legal, finance, and audit requirements.
  • Assist CPI team's technical effort to gather, analyze, and interpret complex data.
  • Support the application of capital and corporate philanthropy strategies and tools.
  • Assist the CPI team to source, structure, underwrite, and negotiate social investments.
  • Work closely with Metrics and Programs teammates to support organizational priorities related to impact and outcome measurement, i.e., key performance indicators (KPIs) for WWP's philanthropy arm of grantees.
  • Collaborate with the Metrics team and other stakeholders to follow and incorporate best practices in grant compliance and governance.
  • Review, analyze, and evaluate proposals through social and mission due diligence.
  • Manage administration of grant management software, DocuPhase, and DocuSign, and related technology enhancements.
  • Track, analyze, and report on emerging and vanguard efforts, trends, and opportunities in the corporate philanthropy and corporate responsibility sectors.
  • Apply lessons learned to help achieve maximum impact and presence as the premier charitable investment leader in the wounded warrior community.
  • Maintain regular, high-touch communication with WWP leadership, vetting teams and WWP teammates relating to grant compliance and further advancement of CPI's mission, strategy, and goals.
  • Attend and actively participate in required training and/or meetings, including but not limited to New Teammate Orientation, WWP Cares, ASIST Suicide Prevention training, Leadership training, culture/team based training, or departmental huddles.
  • Other duties as assigned.
