About The Position

The Grants Administrator at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) plays a crucial role in leading research opportunities and ensuring the timely submission of grant proposals. This position involves coordinating with various stakeholders, mentoring less experienced investigators, and managing grant compliance and administration. The Administrator will also assist in auditing grant expenses and improving program quality, all while working within a collaborative environment focused on research and funding opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience with grants administration and/or compliance.
  • Federal grant experience, specifically working with NSF or NIH.
  • Ability to think and problem-solve creatively.
  • Strong project management and time management skills; highly organized and detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Assist principal investigators and research associates with determining potential funding sources, proposal submission, report writing, and adherence to funding policies and procedures.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reports through a strong working relationship with the finance office.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for principal investigators and peer reviewers, troubleshooting grant questions related to pending proposals, procedures, payments, and providing technical assistance.
  • Manage subcontracts with non-MSOE institutions, e.g., MCW, UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee.
  • Assist the MSOE community in proposal writing skills, funding opportunities, policy and procedures, report writing, and other essential skills needed to obtain funding from external sources.
  • Manage MSOE's OneAegis database for project files for all proposals, active and completed grant programs.
  • Improve program quality through recommendation of efficient and effective methods of program development, funding, and evaluation.
  • Provide statistical information related to MSOE research as requested by the Dean of Applied Research/Institutional Research.
  • Coordinate programming, presentations, web page development, and marketing with other academic and support departments at MSOE.
  • Provide campus-wide publicity for grant opportunities and on-campus presentations of grant research.
  • Oversee and act as the expert for generating proposals including all grant administration policies, systems, and documentation to ensure compliance, incorporate best practices, and ensure excellent controls.
  • Serve as the resident expert on grant compliance and interpretation of all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide ongoing training to faculty and staff as it relates to grant administration and organizational policies.
  • Provide support in managing industry-based projects for faculty and staff.
