About the position

The Grants Accountant I/II position is responsible for administering assigned awards, including award setup, management, and closeout for contracts and grants in the assigned portfolio. The role involves producing customized reports, updating revenue status, reconciling ledger groups, and consulting with departments regarding financial discrepancies. The position requires communication with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with university, state, and federal regulations. The Grants Accountant I is considered an apprentice level position, while the Grants Accountant II operates independently and makes day-to-day decisions regarding the sponsored project portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Administer assigned awards including setup, management, and closeout.
  • Produce customized reports and queries to verify charges.
  • Update revenue status for each project.
  • Reconcile the three ledger groups.
  • Consult with departments regarding financial discrepancies.
  • Maintain project files with backup documentation.
  • Provide financial information for joint award management.
  • Communicate with PIs, departmental representatives, and sponsors.
  • Monitor awards for compliance with regulations.
  • Perform award setup and modification.
  • Interpret and review award documents.
  • Generate awards and release budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations.
  • Prepare and submit invoices and reports.
  • Perform activities related to closeout.
  • Review and approve budget and expenditure transfers.
  • Participate in training and continuous quality improvement.
  • Perform collections activities for overdue accounts.

Requirements

  • Experience in award administration.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting and compliance.
  • Ability to produce customized financial reports.
  • Strong communication skills for stakeholder interaction.
  • Proficiency in using financial software and databases.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with federal, state, and non-profit grants.
  • Familiarity with OMB circulars and federal regulations.
  • Background in accounting or finance.
