About The Position

The Bush Foundation is seeking a Grantmaking Officer with a focus on South Dakota to strengthen connections with communities and ensure high-potential ideas receive investment and support. This role involves engaging with community members, sourcing and reviewing grant proposals, and guiding grantees through the funding process. The officer will foster relationships across diverse perspectives to advance transformative investments in South Dakota and the Native nations in the region. The position is primarily remote, requiring the candidate to live in South Dakota and travel up to 40% throughout the state and to the Foundation's main office in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Requirements

  • Broad knowledge of community-serving entities in South Dakota.
  • Experience building and maintaining effective partnerships.
  • Experience reviewing grant applications and proposals.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and emotional intelligence.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks.
  • Strong due diligence and assessment skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Salesforce or other CRMs.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with communities, organizations, and individuals across South Dakota.
  • Plan and conduct ongoing engagement strategies, including in-person activities.
  • Coordinate with staff on Native nations to integrate strategies.
  • Respond to inquiries about grant programs and provide constructive feedback.
  • Document engagement activities in the Salesforce database.
  • Evaluate proposals and applications, conducting due diligence.
  • Source and cultivate new ideas and organizations for transformative change.
  • Manage a portfolio of grantees, providing ongoing support.
  • Participate in organization-wide initiatives and uphold organizational values.
