About The Position

Are you interested in how local governments fund real-world infrastructure projects? Curious about how grants support roads, water systems, public buildings, and community improvements? Our Grants Department is seeking a highly motivated Grants Intern for Summer 2026 in our Holmdel, NJ office to support exciting, impactful work at the intersection of public funding, municipal engineering, and community development. This internship offers hands-on experience working alongside experienced grant professionals who help public clients secure funding for critical projects.

Requirements

  • No prior grant experience is required—this role is designed for students looking to learn and grow.
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Administration, Planning, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong writing, research, and organizational skills.
  • Interest in government, public policy, infrastructure, or grants preferred.
  • Must have reliable transportation to the office.
  • Detail-oriented and eager to learn
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess solid problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work in a high-paced environment.
  • Strong computer literacy, to include MS Office.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Research funding opportunities and summarize details, becoming fully knowledgeable on each program assigned.
  • Conduct outreach to internal staff and clients on funding programs.
  • Attend meetings with internal and external clients and program contacts.
  • Prepare funding applications (write narratives, complete forms, coordinate application components with client and internal team, prepare supporting documents as needed).
  • Perform site visits as needed. For example, to take project site photos for applications.
  • Learn how municipalities and engineers collaborate to develop fundable infrastructure projects.
  • Gain insight into municipal capital planning, compliance requirements, and reporting.
  • Work directly with towns, counties, and public agencies, primarily across New Jersey.
  • Learn how funding shapes engineering, transportation, water, and community projects.
  • Build practical skills in research, professional writing, and public-sector communication.
  • Gain exposure to major funding programs commonly used by municipalities.
  • Learn from a collaborative, multidisciplinary team passionate about public service.
