About The Position

The Grant Writer/Development Associate plays a key role in sustaining and growing VISIONS foundation and government funding portfolio. This position is primarily responsible for researching, drafting, and submitting compelling proposals and reports that reflect the mission and strategic priorities of the agency. In addition to grant responsibilities, the role provides broader support across the Development Department, including assistance with communications, web content, and administrative tasks. This is a great opportunity for a strong writer with excellent organizational skills who thrives in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; relevant experience in development, communications, or nonprofit management preferred
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of grant writing experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector, with a record of successful funding proposals; and knowledge of relevant funders preferred
  • Excellent writing, editing, and research skills with attention to tone, clarity, and audience
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with donor databases or CRM systems (familiarity with donor databases such as Arreva's Exceed Further or Blackbaud's Raisor's Edge preferred)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
  • Familiarity with, lived experience, or interest in vision rehabilitation a plus

Responsibilities

  • Research and identify new funding opportunities across foundation, corporate, and government sources
  • Write letters of inquiry, grant proposals, interim and final reports, and related correspondence in support of VISIONS $1M+ annual grant portfolio
  • Write proposals for and secure at least $100,000 in new foundation and corporate grants annually
  • Update and manage internal grants schedule; tracking grant deadlines, maintaining detailed records of submissions, deliverables, and reporting requirements
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather relevant data, participant stories, and content for proposals, reports, and marketing materials
  • Support donor stewardship and event-related development tasks as needed
  • Assist with donor-facing impact communications
  • Write and update website content in coordination with the Development and Marketing/Communications teams, ensuring all copy meets accessibility standards
  • Provide administrative support for the Development Department, including file management, data entry, and internal reporting
  • Perform other duties as assigned
