About The Position

The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Substation Electrician - GRANT. The Full – Time, Non-Bargaining, Non- Exempt position with an hourly rate of $23.89 - $29.86. Working at the Utilities Building located at 1900 2nd Avenue North, Lake Worth, FL 33461. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Grid Deployment Office has selected the City of Lake Worth Beach for investment via the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) program to enhance grid flexibility, install more than 60 reclosers and other sectionalizing devices to autonomously rebalance the electrical system, integrate battery energy storage (BES) for community solar, new fiber optics connections, install advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), and deploy a meter data management (MDM) system. Positions covered under this GRIP Grant will expire / terminate in accordance with the grant’s timeline: this position will expire on the same date that the grant expires. The regular work schedule for these positions is Monday through Friday. All positions are in-person and / or on-site. All candidates must be United States citizens. JOB SUMMARY: This is responsible work in the construction, inspection and maintenance of substations and network systems in the City of Lake Worth Beach. Work is performed under the supervision of a Substation Foreman.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized high school or possession of a recognized certification or a comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications; completion of courses in electric theory; completion of satisfactory apprenticeship as an Apprentice Substation Electrician in the construction, inspection, maintenance and repair of substations, network systems and related equipment.
  • Position may be filled by a Journeyman Lineman.
  • Extensive knowledge of, and familiarity with, the practices, methods, equipment and tools used in power substation and underground network construction, operation, maintenance and repair, and a reasonable acquaintance with electrical principles. Ability to supervise others. Ability to maintain good public relations, initiative, good judgment in solving problems. Good knowledge of substation equipment and the City of Lake worth's electric system. Ability to perform emergency work under adverse conditions within safe physical limitations. Uses hot sticks, switch sticks, fuse pullers, rubber gloves and other safety equipment to repair energized and de-energized lines and circuits.
  • Knowledge of first aid,
  • Ability to understand and follow written instructions.
  • All full-time employees are considered critical in response to emergency situations and may be deemed essential as needed depending on the situation.
  • Employees in this position will be required to complete the FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) Certification Levels 100, 200, 700 and 800 within the first six months of employment. Certain positions may be required to attain additional ICS training as needed.

Responsibilities

  • INSPECTS AND MAINTAINS SUBSTATION EQUIPMENT.
  • PERFORMS ACTIVITIES RELATED TO OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF REGULATORS, CIRCUIT BREAKERS, POWER TRANSFORMERS, UNDERGROUND NETWORK EQUIPMENT REPAIRS OF TRANSMISSION VOLTAGE CABLES.
  • TRAINS SUBORDINATES, RESEARCHES AND STUDIES EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUALS AND BOOKS.
  • Supervises when foreman is absent, performs heavy manual labor, answer emergency calls.
  • Handles a variety of emergency problems during and after storms.
