About The Position

The Grant Strategist and Writer plays a critical role in advancing the mission of Creating Healthier Communities by leading the identification, development, and acquisition of institutional funding. This role drives the development of competitive grant proposals ranging from $50,000 to $8,000,000 and secures funding from federal agencies, foundations, nonprofit organizations, and enterprise partners. The position is responsible for building and managing a strategic grant pipeline that supports long-term financial sustainability and community impact. The Grant Strategist and Writer collaborates closely with executive leadership, program teams, and finance to translate organizational priorities into compelling funding opportunities. This role also identifies collaborative and consortium-based funding opportunities to strengthen competitiveness and expand partnerships across the health and social impact ecosystem. Requirements

  • 5 to 10 years of grant writing and institutional fundraising experience.
  • Exceptional written and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated success in securing six- and seven-figure grants.
  • Experience with federal, foundation, and corporate funding proposals.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience with tools such as Grants.gov, Foundation Directory Online, GrantStation, Submittable, Fluxx, Foundant, Salesforce, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data/document management systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare, public health, nonprofit, or social impact sectors preferred.
  • Experience supporting leadership discussions related to funding strategy preferred.
  • Preferred fields include public health, nonprofit management, public administration, communications, health policy, or related areas.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, prioritize, and pursue grant opportunities aligned with CHC’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Develop and submit high-quality, competitive grant proposals across multiple funding sources.
  • Build and manage a 12- to 24-month grant pipeline.
  • Identify opportunities for collaborative and consortium-based funding initiatives.
  • Engage with funders, partners, and stakeholders to expand funding opportunities.
  • Provide strategic recommendations on funding priorities and alignment.
  • Work closely with executive leadership, program teams, and finance to develop proposals.
  • Ensure alignment of program narratives, budgets, and outcomes.
  • Communicate timelines, requirements, and updates across teams.
  • Manage the full grant lifecycle from research through submission and post-award coordination.
  • Maintain tracking systems for pipeline, submissions, and outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with funder requirements and reporting expectations.
  • Monitor trends in healthcare, public health, health equity, and nonprofit funding.
  • Identify emerging opportunities and provide insights to leadership.
