About The Position

As a member of the Office of Sponsored Projects' Pre-Award team, the Grant Officer I plays a crucial role in supporting faculty and department administrators in the development and submission of grant proposals. This position involves providing expert advice on compliance with federal regulations, sponsor guidelines, and Dartmouth's internal policies. The Grant Officer I is responsible for facilitating the submission of sponsored research applications, ensuring that all necessary approvals are obtained, and that proposals meet the required standards before submission. This role requires a strong understanding of the pre-award process, including budget development and the intricacies of grant applications, which often involve collaboration with faculty and staff to ensure that all components are accurately represented and compliant with sponsor requirements. The Grant Officer I will also engage in grant and contract award review and negotiation, identifying any problematic clauses in draft agreements and negotiating terms with oversight from the Research Grants Administration (RGA). This aspect of the role is critical as it ensures that the institution's interests are protected while also facilitating the research efforts of faculty members. Additionally, the Grant Officer I serves as a liaison between the institution and sponsors, addressing administrative issues that may arise during the proposal and award stages. This includes facilitating electronic proposal submissions and developing training materials for faculty and administrative staff on the use of sponsor electronic submission systems. Overall, the Grant Officer I is expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all interactions and communications reflect these values. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a dedication to enhancing the research administration infrastructure at Dartmouth College.
