About The Position

As the fiscal sponsor for the City of Baltimore, the Baltimore Civic Fund serves as the financial backbone for public-private partnerships between innovative City programs and the philanthropic community. In this role, the Civic Fund manages $12 million annually for more than 125 City programs that promote business and economic development, education, culture and the creative economy, job growth, and more. The Civic Fund strives to serve as a hub for connection and coordination between the City of Baltimore and the philanthropic community by building relationships and growing support for priority projects. Working alongside the Mayor of Baltimore and City leadership, the Civic Fund helps realize a vision of an inclusive city where all Baltimore residents prosper. As one of the country’s only mayoral funds, the Baltimore Civic Fund provides fiscal sponsorship for initiatives of the City of Baltimore – currently more than 125 programs and projects. Our services allow City agencies to raise funds and accept philanthropic investments, while providing the assurance to investors that contributions are managed with the highest level of integrity and accuracy. Our Grantmaking Manager is a member of the Programs Team and oversees the processes involved in distribution of grants to nonprofits in accordance with specified requirements and reflecting the Civic Fund’s commitment to equity and inclusivity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of professional experience.
  • Experience with grants management work, including compliance, due diligence, and all activities needed to successfully execute and evaluate grants from both public and private funders.
  • A thorough understanding of the history of Baltimore, its challenges and opportunities, and the role of the philanthropic and social sectors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and comfort with or ability to learn other systems, such as Blackbaud, Asana, Adobe, and Sage Intaact, Donor Perfect, Bloomerang.
  • Vendor and customer relations experience.
  • Strict attention to detail, highly organized, and efficient.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communications skills.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively plan, organize, and manage grantmaking processes and technical assistance to nonprofit recipients.
  • Manage projects with an entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative mindset.
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Assist in developing and drive implementation of accessible application processes for nonprofits to be considered for available funding.
  • Implement equitable & community-led application review process to select grantees.
  • Ensure grantee payments are made appropriately & promptly.
  • Work with key internal and external staff to develop and coordinate technical assistance efforts.
  • Track & coordinate submission to funders of grantee reports.
  • Work hand-in-hand with Finance staff to build-out infrastructure and maintain good stewardship of funds.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify and solve problems.
  • Utilize financial and grantmaking portals to prepare, run, and maximize reports.
  • Prepare regular updates on new and notable grantmaking activities for Board updates and external communications.
