About The Position

Grant Associate (In-Person Only) Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino (LASSB) is a nonprofit public interest law firm providing free civil legal services to low-income and vulnerable residents of San Bernardino County. LASSB advances justice and stability through legal assistance in areas including housing, domestic violence, public benefits, immigration, consumer protection, and access to healthcare. General Role Description The Grant Associate is responsible for researching, writing, reporting, and monitoring grants that support LASSB’s legal services and community programs. This position manages government, foundation, corporate, and community grants and ensures compliance with funding requirements. The Grant Associate works closely with executive leadership, finance, development, and program staff to support sustainable funding and organizational growth. This is a fully in-person position.

Requirements

  • Two to three years of professional experience in grant research, grant writing, and grant management.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience writing and managing government grants at the federal, state, county, and/or city level.
  • Strong grant writing, editing, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and implementation of grant and fundraising strategies in collaboration with the Executive Director and development staff.
  • Research, write, and submit grant proposals to government agencies, foundations, corporate, and community funders.
  • Prepare grant narratives, budgets, and supporting documentation aligned with organizational and program goals.
  • Manage post-award grant compliance, including tracking expenditures, deliverables, and reporting deadlines.
  • Prepare and submit accurate and timely grant reports, renewals, and amendments.
  • Coordinate with Finance, Programs, Contracts, and Human Resources to ensure compliance with grant requirements and accurate financial reporting.
  • Collect and organize program data and outcomes for use in proposals and reports.
  • Maintain organized electronic and hard-copy grant files, calendars, and tracking systems.
  • Monitor funding opportunities and maintain an active pipeline of prospective funders.
  • Prepare contract and award summaries for program staff and leadership.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings related to grants, funding, and program development as assigned.
  • Support audits, site visits, and funder communications as needed.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
