The University of New Orleans is seeking a candidate for the Research Post-Award department. The role involves general accounting functions, including the preparation of financial statements and fiscal reports, monitoring and reconciling budgets, and ensuring compliance with grantor restrictions. The candidate will communicate with various stakeholders, review purchases and contracts, maintain cash management records, and participate in training opportunities. Additionally, the role includes special projects related to Medicaid grants, ensuring timely payment of invoices, and working with payroll on necessary adjustments.

  • Prepare required financial statements and fiscal reports including the compilation and analysis of data for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Assist with the year-end closing process and internal reports as requested.
  • Prepare, monitor, reconcile, audit, and forecast revenues, expenditures, and budgets.
  • Monitor cost sharing commitments for assigned awards and communicate with principal investigators and business managers.
  • Communicate with public and private accountants, auditors, banks, and vendors to resolve problems.
  • Review and approve purchases and contracts, ensuring compliance with budgetary limitations.
  • Correct errors in Accounts Payables, Purchasing, Accounting Services, and Payroll.
  • Prepare entries to modify budgets and review salary charges for compliance.
  • Maintain cash management records and follow up with sponsors on delinquent invoices.
  • Partner with Research Pre-Award on proposal budget preparation.
  • Close assigned awards in a timely manner.
  • Participate in training opportunities for self and others.
  • Participate in the development of new accounting techniques and managerial reports.
  • Balance customer service skills with compliance to assist PIs in managing their grants.
  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years experience in research accounting or a closely related field.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Competence with Microsoft software, especially Excel and Word.
  • Master's degree.
  • 5 or more years of experience in research accounting or a closely related field.
  • Grant experience.
  • Workday experience.
