About The Position

This 0.5 FTE GTA Position at the School of Medicine (UNR Med) designs, creates, and delivers impactful instructional materials that enhance learning and teaching experiences. This role involves navigating through curriculum design, educational technology consultation, and content delivery while ensuring alignment with best educational practices and accreditation standards. The position will liaise with various departments, resolve copyright issues, and provide training to faculty and staff on course design and educational technologies. Key responsibilities also include optimizing the use of AI in medical education at UNR Med. This position's workspace is in PMB on North Campus.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno in the graduate program

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the development of educational/training materials using AI (e.g. videos, eLearning modules, online cases, etc.). Examples of platforms: Copilot, Adobe Captivate, movie editor software, Learning Management Systems, YouTube, PowToon, Canva.
  • Intermediate experience with MS Office suite (e.g. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Comfort with online collaboration tools (e.g. OneDrive, Box, shared editing software, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Design, create, and deliver instructional materials and related digital media in support of learning, teaching, assessment, and improving student outcomes.
  • Instructional materials are based on best practices, educational research, and appropriate assessment methods.
  • Liaise with Information Technology and other MD program coordinators to solve common problems and maximize use of available tools, services, spaces, and resources
  • Assist in resolving copyright and fair use issues for instructional materials in collaboration with Savitt Medical Library staff.
  • Design, develop and launch curriculum assets in collaboration with subject matter experts on the timeline co-set with other curricular leaders.
  • Ensure course material/media developed align with session, course and medical education program learning objectives and LCME accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with UNR MED faculty and staff, providing instruction on the design of courses and sessions, including standardized formats for team-based learning sessions and flipped classroom sessions to create consistency across the curriculum.
  • Provide consultation and training on educational technologies and course/session design to the stakeholders.
  • The Instructional Designer will assist with promotion and outreach of instructional design services and related efforts across the MD program.
  • As needed, travel to on-campus and off-campus sites to provide collaborative support for instructional content/media.
  • Develop training materials for faculty on how to use AI to improve or create teaching materials, assessment questions, and lesson plans
  • Create other AI tools (i.e. Tutors) for courses
