About The Position

Program Overview The GSIE Pilot Ambassador Program is launching its first cohort of highly motivated and enthusiastic graduate student leaders. Ambassadors will represent the Graduate School & International Education and contribute to outreach, recruitment, and student engagement efforts. This role is ideal for students who are passionate about sharing their personal graduate student experience. Both Domestic and International Ambassadors will work collaboratively while also providing unique perspectives based on their student experiences.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA
  • Current Graduate Student, can be Senior Undergrad Student
  • Must have been studying at the UofA a minimum of one year
  • Cannot be a current Graduate Assistant (GA)
  • Strong knowledge of UofA Culture and Resources
  • Knowledge of international education and knowledge of program options, application processes, cultural adaptation, and available support resources
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated dependability along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong writing skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in student leadership, public speaking, peer mentorship, or related involvement
  • Knowledge of campus resources, student services, and graduate student support systems
  • Proficiency using social media platforms such as Instagram and LinkedIn

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a positive, professional representative of GSIE at recruitment and engagement activities such as open houses, info sessions, campus tours, and networking events.
  • Share insights about academic life, student support services, research opportunities, and program expectations with prospective and/or current students.
  • Assist with communication initiatives, including student panels, presentations, email outreach, blog posts, and peer engagement efforts.
  • Assist with social media engagement such as featuring themselves in reels/video.
  • Support GSIE staff in planning and executing recruitment events, campus programming, and ambassador-led initiatives.
  • Attend required training sessions, planning meetings, and team check-ins throughout the semester.
  • Complete 20-30 service hours per semester.
  • Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
