About The Position

The Graduate Research Associate is enrolled in, or is a recent graduate of a graduate research program at a local university. The Graduate Research Associate conducts research and/or evaluations coordinated by the Conservation Education or Conservation and Science Departments, performs data entry, analysis, scientific literature searches, and prepares reports and presentations.

Requirements

  • Graduate level enrollment or completion of a local university science program or interdisciplinary program such as, conservation, psychology, ecology, zology, education, interpretation, environmental studies, etc. [ biology, ecology, zoology, natural resources- for Conservation and Science.
  • Computer competency including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint as well as experience conducting literature searches in academic and public research databases.
  • Willingness and ability to work in adverse weather and field conditions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous visitor or education research experience preferred, proficiency with data entry and statistical analyses desired.

Responsibilities

  • Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
  • Conducts applied or basic research in areas of interest to the Zoo's Conservation & Science or Conservation Education program.
  • Reviews scientific literature and compiles information to topics of interest.
  • Data entry and summary; keeps accurate and organized research database.
  • Serves as research assistant to supervisor(s) as assigned.
  • Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
  • Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
  • As assigned, helps to compile data, writes reports and creates/gives presentations on research activities and findings.
  • As assigned, attends scientific seminars, conservation education division meetings, and other events as part of professional development.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
