About The Position

The Graduate Research Assistant position at San Diego State University (SDSU) offers an exciting opportunity for graduate students to engage in research and development within the Mimetic Operators Library Extended (MOLE) project. MOLE is an open-source library designed to facilitate the use of mimetic difference operators for computational applications in science and engineering. The library is developed and maintained by researchers and graduate students affiliated with the SDSU Computational Science Research Center (CSRC). The primary focus of this role is to assist in transitioning MOLE from an open-source project into a widely adopted open-source ecosystem. This will involve building software documentation infrastructure, writing how-to guides, and contributing new examples for the library. The Graduate Research Assistant will be responsible for developing documentation pipelines and exploring various strategies to convert existing LaTeX documents into markup language documents. These documents will be used to create HTML-based documentation utilizing tools like Sphinx, which allow for rich formatting and cross-referencing. The position requires collaboration within an open-source community environment, where the assistant will automatically build and integrate MOLE code and documentation changes within a GitHub repository. The role also includes maintaining professional communication with the CSRC supervisor and affiliated researchers to ensure that assigned activities are coordinated and completed within established deadlines. This position is part-time, requiring 20 hours per week during the academic year and 40 hours per week during the summer months. The Graduate Research Assistant will work at the CSRC offices located in the Geology, Mathematics, and Computer Science Building at SDSU. Candidates must be graduate students currently enrolled in a master's degree program at SDSU and must reside in California or be within a commutable distance from the university.
