The research assistant will focus on the intersection of computer science, linguistics, and national security, with typical duties including: Data Acquisition and Preprocessing: Collect, clean, and organize large-scale, open-source textual data (e.g., social media, news reports) relevant to global security and intelligence challenges. Computational Modeling Support: Work with the Principal Investigator (PI) to implement and test Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, such as topic modeling and sentiment analysis, using Python and related libraries. Analysis and Visualization: Analyze model results, identify language patterns, and assist in creating data visualizations for research findings. Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of methodology, code, data sources, and assist in preparing reports and presentations. Appropriate Service: Advanced research assistants may engage in carrying out independent research under faculty guidance.
