About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Director, Clinical Manager, Preceptor, and Charge Nurse, the Graduate Nurse is responsible for providing patient care and assigned procedures for assigned patients. The employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital. Key functions include performing direct and indirect patient care, ensuring patient safety, documenting care in medical records, updating patient plans of care, and safely disposing of hazardous pharmaceutical waste. The role also involves effective communication with various hospital personnel and departments, and performing secondary assessments on patients in Med/Surg, Progressive Care, Post-Acute, and Skilled Nursing units.

Requirements

• Unofficial transcript from an accredited school of nursing required to begin orientation.
• Completion of an accredited (ASN, BSN) school of nursing as evidenced by an official transcript OR diploma AND authorization to test (ATT).
• BLS certification must be obtained within the orientation period, and certification must be kept current while in this position.
• Successful completion of a nursing program at an accredited school of nursing.
• Knowledge and skills as normally acquired through the successful completion of a nursing program at an accredited school of nursing.
• Communication skills to perform nursing care on a continuous basis and provide comfort and support to the patient and their family.
• Ability to exchange and provide patient care information to licensed personnel.
• Contributes to a positive work environment and the overall team effort of the department.
• Works well under pressure.
• Understands patient satisfaction is a top priority and is flexible and accommodating to meet the patient’s needs and protect patient’s dignity.
• Understands and adheres to West Tennessee Healthcare’s compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
• Assumes responsibility for insuring continued professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Performs direct and indirect patient care responsibilities as assigned by charge nurse and/or preceptor.
• Ensures patient safety.
• Documents delivery of patient care and other pertinent information in patients’ medical record and updates plan of care for assigned patients as necessary.
• Performs responsibilities as related to the safe disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste.
• Communicates information regarding patients and unit operations to RN, Charge Nurse, Clinical Manager, Director, and other shifts in a timely manner using proper lines of communication.
• Communicates effectively with other departments with personnel from other departments in the hospital using proper lines of communication.
• Performs and documents secondary assessment on patients in Med/Surg, Progressive Care, Post-Acute, and Skilled Nursing only.
• Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
