Position Summary: New Graduate Nurses are supported throughout their transition from academia to practice with a 12-month Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program TM. There is automatic enrollment into the Nurse Residency Program for all Graduate Nurses with less than one year of experience. During the 12-month residency program, Nurse Residents will gather monthly for mandatory seminars to develop clinical and leadership skills. Nurse Residents will take part in a comprehensive orientation and will receive ongoing support and mentorship. Our dedicated nursing team make a lasting difference in the lives of patients with complex, long-term medical needs. Here, you will build meaningful relationships and provide compassionate, holistic care that promotes independence and quality of life. As part of the Hospital for Special Care community, you will have the opportunity to expand your skillset and explore other specialty areas across the hospital as your career grows. Opportunities are available in the following specialty areas: Acute Care, Continuing Care, Behavioral Health, Pediatrics and the HFSC Hartford location.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited school of nursing program.
  • Primary source verification required to establish 90-day time frame for temporary practice privileges post-graduation.
  • Temporary practice provisions for graduate nurses as outlined by the Connecticut State Department of Public Health and Board of Examiners for Nursing.

  • Valid/Current CPR Certification (required within 3 months of employment)

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to patients in a long-term acute care or rehabilitation setting.
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other care team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Monitor, assess, and document patient progress while ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medication management, and discharge planning.
  • Support a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous learning.
