About The Position

The Labor and Delivery RN Internship at St. Luke's University Health Network is designed for nursing students and experienced RNs seeking to transition into the Labor and Delivery setting. This full-time, competency-based internship program provides a comprehensive educational experience, bridging the gap between preparation and practice, and includes hands-on training, clinical observations, and leadership development. Interns will gain the skills necessary to provide individualized, family-centered care during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, ultimately preparing them for a role in the Labor and Delivery Department.

Requirements

  • Current BLS certification.
  • Registered Nurse with a current license to practice in the State of Pennsylvania.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Labor and Delivery setting (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Nursing students with prospective Spring/Summer/Winter graduation dates who will be eligible to sit for NCLEX and obtain licensure before the start of the Internship.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and provide individualized quality patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, documentation, and evaluation.
  • Formulate collaborative and individualized plans of care and identify expected patient outcomes based on the nursing process and patient birth plan.
  • Work cooperatively with ancillary, nursing, and other patient-team personnel to maintain standards for professional nursing practice.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/Entity and ensure proper release of information.
  • Demonstrate and model the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
  • Comply with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
  • Demonstrate competency in assessment, treatment range, knowledge of growth and development, and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
