The Caterpillar Graduate Leadership Development Program (GLDP) Summer Associate position is a 10-week summer internship for students who are actively pursuing their Masters in Business Administration (MBA). As a Summer Associate, participants will be part of the Caterpillar Enterprise Strategy Division. The summer associateship is designed as a pipeline into a full-time position in the Graduate Leadership Development Program, a three-year program that seeks to provide exposure and development through various facets of the organization. The program is three years in duration, with 3 one-year rotations across the enterprise, which include strategic, financial, and operational roles on corporate and business unit teams. Program participants are placed into high impact positions with a focus on key strategic initiatives including electrification, autonomy, connectivity, digital, and sustainability. GLDP participants will have unique exposure to senior leaders in the organization and access to professional development opportunities. The Graduate Leadership Development Program will provide participants with an opportunity to chart their careers at Caterpillar and help them grow and add value to the organization, dealer network, and customer base.

Requirements

  • Customer Focus: Knowledge of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and ability to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions.
  • Data Gathering & Analysis: Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Negotiating: Knowledge of successful negotiation concepts and techniques; ability to negotiate successfully across the organization and with external vendors and clients in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.
  • Strategic Thinking: Knowledge of the importance of "big picture" thinking and planning; ability to apply organizational acumen and competitiveness to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization.
  • Value Selling: Knowledge of the principles and practices for selling products, technology and services; ability to provide overall product/service 'value' and to differentiate support offerings that address clearly understood customer needs.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 5-7 years of related work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Developing high-quality strategic and financial recommendations
  • Gathering qualitative and quantitative data from publicly available sources, subscribed databases, primary research, and internal Caterpillar business units
  • Integrating, analyzing, and summarizing the above data to derive insightful conclusions that maximize business impact and support strategic decision making
  • Developing detailed financial models to support mergers & acquisitions transactions or to supplement corporate finance or business unit finance analyses
  • Creating models, reports, and presentations to clearly communicate strategic and financial recommendations and supporting data to senior stakeholders
