About The Position

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Graduate Landscape Designer to join our team. This position will work in a collaborative and integrated team of professionals that include landscape architects, civil engineers, planners, surveyors, environmental scientists, and transportation engineers. The primary responsibilities for the Landscape Designer include design/graphic production and technical document creation for deliverables related to the planning and landscape architecture service. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited university with a degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design or closely related field.
  • Working knowledge of common software including AutoCAD/FX, Sketch-up, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, In-design), Microsoft Word, MS Excel, and Geographic Information System (GIS).
  • Strong freehand illustration and computer rendering skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to self-regulate multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Portfolio or work samples will be required if considered for an interview.

Nice To Haves

  • Working toward or desire to gain license as a Registered Landscape Architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and implement illustration, design and CAD standards established for the group and be accountable for their proper implementation.
  • Build increasing skills in review and interpretation of regulatory codes, ordinances, and comprehensive plans.
  • Review and analyze land features relating to opportunities and constraints for development.
  • Visit pre-development sites to conduct tree surveys and site analysis used in the design process.
  • Develop and refine a design methodology that results in creative, sound solutions to a given problem.
  • Build increasing skills in preparing hard-scape, grading, planting and irrigation graphics, plans and illustrations using both digital and hand drawn formats.
  • Begin to participate in project meetings with staff, clients, & regulatory agencies.
  • Consult with product manufacturers to research, evaluate and select construction materials.
  • Begin visiting construction sites to gather information and support senior project team members during the construction phase.
