Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Graduate Land Planner to join our team in our Richmond, VA office. The position will work in a collaborative and integrated team of professionals that include landscape architects, civil engineers, planners, surveyors, environmental scientists, and transportation engineers. The primary responsibilities for the Graduate Land Planner include plan production and technical document creation across the South region for deliverables related to land planning. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.

  • Work with the senior certified planner to build increasing skills to review and interpret regulatory codes, ordinances, and comprehensive plans.
  • Review and analyze land features relating to opportunities, constraints, and layout options for development.
  • Prepare due diligence analysis, land development concepts, master development plans, and graphic illustrations using both digital and hand drawn formats.
  • Develop and refine design solutions with senior certified planners.
  • Prepare land development concepts and master development plans using in-depth knowledge of land planning theory and concepts.
  • Participate in project meetings with staff, clients, and regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in editing technical plans, details, and specifications.
  • Visit construction sites to gather information and support senior project team members during the construction phase.
  • Use knowledge of entitlement procedures and required regulatory approvals.
  • Ensure division, regional, and company values, policies, and practices are consistently followed within the Planning service.
  • Lead by example - display solid judgment, good values, trust, honesty, openness, and professionalism.
  • Four-year degree in Planning or related field.
  • 0-3 years of professional experience (Master's Degree may substitute for 2 years of experience).
  • Computer skills including AutoCAD, Sketch-up, 3DS Max, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, In-design), Microsoft Word, MS Excel, and Geographic Information System (GIS).
  • Strong freehand illustration and computer rendering skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities well.
  • Portfolio or work samples may be required if considered for an interview.
