About The Position

Interns at Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines & Horizon Air join teams throughout different departments and work on visible projects that impact our guests and business. Beyond hands-on experience, interns also get the opportunity to network with fellow employees and company leaders through various intern events and programming. Our interns also receive unlimited standby travel benefits during their internship, which means that many weekends are filled with jet setting across our growing network. This internship is for summer 2026. Our internships are full-time for 12 weeks, and we offer two program timelines to align with different academic calendars. This internship will be located in SeaTac, WA. If not already in the internship city, candidates will be required to relocate for the duration of the internship.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a graduate degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Transportation Engineering Systems.
  • Familiarity with and ability to use the PassengerSim software developed by the ATL@GT consortium.
  • Experience conducting simulation research within the airline industry domain.
  • Experience in consulting in the systems / transportation space.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and prioritize in a dynamic environment.
  • Effective communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening).
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative environment.
  • A passion for the airline industry and willingness to learn.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills are critical for this role.
  • Intermediate skilling working with object-oriented programming (python).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Proven analytical and data skills through completed coursework and/or research.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. evidenced by providing supporting documentation.

  • Intermediate skill working with relational databases (SQL).

Responsibilities

  • Completes a technical research project on understanding and measuring the revenue impact of diverse strategic business initiatives in a constrained transportation network.
  • Use a state-of-the-art airline revenue management, schedule, and customer behavior simulation to conduct research, leveraging deep knowledge of airline optimization best practices, choice modeling, simulation, and python programming.
  • Conducts comprehensive network calibration for a simulated airline industry environment.
  • Provides analytical support and relevant data to stakeholders for ad hoc analysis.
  • Fosters strong, collaborative working relationships across workgroups.
  • Develops the ability to independently develop structured project plans from ambiguous prompts.
  • Develops strong technical skills by applying object-oriented programming (python), querying tools (SQL), and synthesizing data insights in concise and easy-to-understand presentations.
