All internship positions are designed to give college students an opportunity to apply techniques learned in an academic setting while obtaining new skills. This is a paid internship offering full-time hours during the summer months. All interns are required to conclude the program by giving a formal presentation on their work. Please note that no relocation assistance or sponsorship is provided for the internship program at this time. Position Summary: Bio-Techne is looking for a highly motivated and creative individual to fill the role of graduate school intern on the Designer Protein group. In this position, you will take part in protein engineering activities in the establishment of directed evolution platforms for the creation of proprietary and high impact protein/antibody products to be used in the cell and gene therapy field. This position requires the ability to work on complex problems where the solution requires creative and original thought.

Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled student pursuing a graduate-level degree in a field relevant to the internship
  • Must be able to work full-time during the duration of the internship program
  • Deep knowledge of molecular biology, protein library assembly, and high throughput screening.
  • Effectively handle and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to objectively train employees and delegate tasks.
  • An unfettered constructive demeanor in the face of troubleshooting complex problems.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work independently on complex projects and determine priorities for self and others.

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough display technology experience.
  • Yeast display experience highly preferred.
  • Hands-on wet-lab experience in protein sciences or experience working closely with experimentalists strongly preferred.
  • Programming skills for data analysis (NGS analysis, Python, R).

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to designing and engineering proteins with enhanced developability attributes (solubility, stability, prolonged half-life, and improved function in cell therapy/organoid workflows) using computational and directed evolution platform methods.
  • Work with team members to improve workflows for the testing of candidate protein/antibody combinations.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of scientists such as biochemists, immunologist, molecular biologist, and other protein designers to translate computational insights into practical therapeutic solutions.
  • Train and mentor others in the lab.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
