About The Position

This is a full-time summer internship position with the ability to extend to part-time hours during the school year. The legal intern will support the Port’s Legal Department on a wide array of legal projects and tasks. Along with state, federal and constitutional law issues, the intern may work on projects related to real estate, contracts, procurement, construction, employment, labor, land use, environmental, airport, and maritime law. If the Port deems it desirable, the internship may be extended through the intern’s third law school year, with the expected work at 12-20 hours per week with a hybrid work schedule.

Requirements

  • You must be currently enrolled and have completed (or nearing) the conclusion of your second year of studies in an accredited law school.
  • You will apply equity and exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices in all aspects of the work. At the Port of Seattle, equity is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all Port employees.
  • You understand and know how to carry out legal research for state and federal issues in a proficient manner.
  • You have excellent writing ability and verbal presentation skills.
  • You’re able to work collaboratively with other members of a legal staff.

Nice To Haves

  • We hope you have knowledge and interest in port/maritime/aviation industry, municipal law, property law, and environmental law preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out legal research projects

  • Assist in document production for litigation or public disclosure
  • Attend meetings and hearings with attorneys
  • Perform other assistance as necessary
