About The Position

The Graduate Financial Aid Assistant is a hybrid role at Northeastern University, focused on delivering exceptional customer service to students and their families regarding financial aid inquiries. This position involves administrative support, counseling, and auditing of students' federal eligibility and aid awards, as well as managing financial aid paperwork for incoming and returning students.

Requirements

  • Associates degree and two years of related office experience.
  • Familiarity with computer systems, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge and experience in customer service.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task.

Responsibilities

  • Answer online ticket and email inquiries for current and prospective students and parents about the financial aid process.
  • Ascertain the level of the inquiry and make an appropriate decision as to the correct action to be taken.
  • Provide program information or access a student's record via computer to resolve inquiries.
  • Direct students to the appropriate staff member when necessary.
  • Manage the Missing Information Letter (MIL) process.
  • Perform outreach campaigns as necessary.
  • Assist with the per term audit of federal eligibility, adjusting aid as needed.
  • Assist with per term awarding of Stipended Graduate Assistantships, Graduate student scholarships, and other special projects as assigned.
  • Review and verify all incoming documents for errors or incomplete data.
  • Notify students of actions they must take to avoid conflicts or time delays regarding missing documents.
  • Greet students, parents, and others, providing general information on the financial aid process for various populations.
  • Handle delicate and confidential situations, providing necessary support to resolve them.
  • Retrieve student information via computer to determine their status in the financial aid process.
