Butterfield Road STE 200 Lombard, IL 60148 Primary Function : As a member of a project team, the Graduate Civil Engineer will perform engineering and design duties for transmission line or substation design, which require application of engineering principles. Assignments are closely supervised and are designed to further develop an employee’s job knowledge and abilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required, a structural background preferred.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or ability to obtain EIT certificate within one year of hire is required.
  • Knowledge of steel and concrete design.
  • Basic knowledge of structural analysis.
  • Knowledge of common word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail software.
  • Working in a team environment.
  • Communicating effectively with co-workers, vendors, clients, etc.
  • Must be able to endure prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer for a minimum of 8 hours a day
  • Must be able and willing to travel overnight for trainings and/or meetings as required (10%)
  • Working extended hours, including weekends, may be required periodically.
  • May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship and/or related work experience in structural design is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a project team to create or modify all civil and structural design documents and drawings for a project, under direct supervision.
  • Perform engineering support tasks such as wind load calculations and structural analysis, with minimal supervision.
  • Learn and apply engineering standards including NESC, IEEE, ANSI, AISC and ACI.
  • Learn and properly use the document management system.
  • Learn and apply corporate standard engineering practices.
  • Spend time at job sites to gain hands-on knowledge and additional training in substation construction and design.
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work.
  • Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party.
  • Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments.
  • Other duties as required.
