About The Position

Are you a new graduate (or soon to graduate in 2025) with a Civil Engineering tertiary qualification and aspirations to develop and grow in a collaborative and supportive environment, then join Stantec's 2025-2026 Graduate Programme! As our Graduate Civil Engineer, based in Dunedin, you will contribute to a variety of local and national transportation projects for a diverse range of clients. You will be based in an office in a central location with easy walking or cycling access to many of the Dunedin suburbs. You will be living in a vibrant community where the active lifestyle thrives, with easy access for exploring New Zealand's stunning southern mountains and lakes. With hiking, surfing, a world class stadium, wildlife, boutique breweries / bustling café scene and mountain biking on your doorstep, you won't have to travel far to have adventures after work! Initially being part of our transport operations team, your focus will be supporting our team design and deliver transport engineering projects. Your role will give you opportunities across our wider team, including transport advisory, transport safety, transport engineering, and transportation planning.

Requirements

  • Qualification in Civil Engineering, Engineering Science, Mathematics or Physics.
  • Passion for transportation and infrastructure design.
  • Recent graduate or due to complete studies in 2025.
  • Full clean current driving licence.
  • Working Rights: Student Visa (convertible to post study open work visa), Permanent Resident, Citizen.

Responsibilities

  • Support our Senior Engineers with 2D and 3D design modelling.
  • State Highway network controls.
  • Implementing effective Traffic Management strategies.
  • Conducting safety audits and ensuring quality standards are met within the management system.
  • Network inspections and analysing data including Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Participating in drone surveys for data collection.
  • Crash reporting and analysis.
  • Providing support for business cases related to transportation projects.
  • Supervising site activities and ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Contributing to recovery efforts in the Central Hawkes Bay region.
