About The Position

The Parent and Family Programs (P&F) Graduate Assistant supports professional staff members in planning, implementing and assessing P&F programs and services. The Graduate Assistant(s) work closely on the implementation of major P&F programmatic areas including large-scale parent and family events, including family weekend, homecoming, tailgates, regional outreach events and graduation ceremonies. Parent and Family Graduate Assistant is expected to be student-centered, administratively sound, task-oriented, relationship-oriented, can problem solve, must have the ability to work autonomously as well as with a team and be proficient with computers. Small and large group facilitation skills, strong customer service skills and the ability to work successfully with a variety of constituents are also highly desired. This position will develop UA Career-Ready skills such as Career & Self Development, Teamwork, Communication, and Professionalism. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Successful enrollment in a graduate-degree seeking program at the University of Arkansas
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.0
  • Criminal Background Check

  • Ability to Use Oral Communication: Ability to effectively convey information and meaning through speech, that is, easy to understand, engaging and employs proper tone.
  • Ability to Use Written Communication: Ability to effectively convey information and meaning through written mediums that is free from spelling and grammar errors, easy to understand, engaging to read and employ proper tone
  • Ability to Demonstrate Dependability: Act as a dependable, diligent member of a work environment by being present, prepared, responsible for your actions, behaviors, performance, and decisions and showing attention to detail
  • Ability to Build Relationships for Collaboration: Ability to build strong, positive work relationships with colleagues, supervisors and customers and demonstrate agility to accomplish common goals
  • Ability to Develop Professionally: Awareness of the need for and importance of professional development in achieving career goals and understanding how to identify areas of growth and self-advocate for opportunities to improve in the workplace

  • Undergraduate experience in event planning, student staff training & development, and student organization leadership experience
  • Preferred Graduate Academic Programs: M.Ed. in Higher Education (HIED) Ed.D. in Education (HIED) Ed.S. in Education (EDUC) M.S. in Marketing (WCOB) M.Ed. in Adult Education (ADED)
