About The Position

Ottawa University (established in 1865), one of the oldest private liberal arts universities in the United States, is a multi-campus system serving approximately 4000 students through its campuses in Kansas (Ottawa, Kansas- Residential Campus and Overland Park, Kansas- Adult Programs); Arizona (Surprise Residential Campus and OUAZ Adult Programs); Wisconsin (Brookfield Adult Programs); and our OU ONLINE PROGRAM based out of Overland Park, Kansas. JOB SUMMARY Responsibility for the day-day-to-day operation of the Gangwish Library Service Desk, collection development, and aiding the librarian with tasks as needed. The graduate student in this position will be responsible for the circulation and reserve desk, assist with hiring, training and supervision of student personnel assigned to the service desk, and help with the completion of library technical services and interlibrary loans tasks.

Requirements

  • An individual must first be accepted and enrolled in an Ottawa University graduate program to be eligible for appointment as a Graduate Assistant.

  • Submission of official undergraduate transcripts (3.0 GPA – minimum requirement) earned bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the circulation coordinator
  • Schedules, trains, evaluates, and supervises student personnel
  • Serves as night supervisor (except for the nights reserved for class)
  • Aids with interlibrary loans processes
  • Aids with library display, programing, and marketing
  • Provides in person and virtual reference services to students, staff, and faculty
  • Reviews virtual and physical material and provides updates
  • May also assist student services and advising departments when time allows
  • Other duties as assigned

  • The selected candidates will be granted tuition waiver (18 credit hours per year) for one of Ottawa University's graduate programs, a partial meal allowance and a bi-weekly living stipend paid over 12 months.
