About The Position

Position Summary NACE Competencies: Students in this position will demonstrate the following competencies: 1.Communication: The Research Assistant will clearly and effectively communicate with (1) the Principal Investigator (PI) and (2) participants for coordinating the experiment sessions and executing research experiments. 2.Professionalism: The Research Assistant will demonstrate punctuality and respect for both PI and colleagues. The Research Assistant will prioritize and complete tasks to accomplish the research goals. Essential Functions : The position may involve some or all of the following. Research assistants selected for this position are required to present the outcomes of their experience at Celebrate Gannon and/or other venues determined by the college.

Requirements

  • Education: Requires full-time enrollment in the M.S. Program in ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE & MANAGEMENT and an undergraduate degree in appropriate science or engineering discipline.
  • Experience: General chemistry coursework or experience performing wet chemistry tests.
  • Licenses and/or Certifications: Must have a driver’s license.
  • University Mission: Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to conduct experiments accurately and in a timely manner
  • Maintain, calibrate and operate field and laboratory instruments to measure various environmental parameters
  • Prepare chemical solutions and perform various wet chemistry tests
  • Prepare solutions, set-up and assist faculty with laboratory classes
  • Enter, clean and analyze data using Excel spreadsheets and applicable statistical programs
  • Understand and practice lab safety protocols
  • Be able to operate a university vehicle for transporting students to field sites
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope, responsibility, and requirements of the position.
