The Department of Information Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is seeking an individual to serve as a Graduate Assistant (GA) in our graduate Bioinformatics program. This is an on campus appointment. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Regular admission to a UA Little Rock graduate degree program or good standing with the UA Little Rock Graduate School for continuing graduate students
  • Ability to work the required hours (FT-50% - 20 hours per week/PT-25% - 10 hours per week) with regular attendance
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
  • Skill in planning, organization, coordination of activities
  • Skill in establishing and maintain effective working relationships
  • Skills in both verbal and written communication
  • Skill in the use of personal computer and related software applications
  • Programming in languages such as Python or Java for Desktop, Server Side Web Apps, or Cloud
  • Web Design and Development Skills involving HTML, CSS, and Javascript
  • Database Development and Writing SQL Queries (Oracle, MS SQL Server)
  • Statistics, Data Mining, and Machine Learning
  • Knowledge of genetics and cell biology

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks and assist faculty members in research activities for a designated project
  • Assist in the collection of data and/or conduct independent research specific to the research project
  • Perform development work for the project. Depending on the needs of the project, development work could include training, statistical analysis, data mining, machine learning, programming, database, web design and development, system analysis, or network administration
  • Conduct testing, implementation, and evaluation of project deliverables
  • Coordinate project meetings and lead project discussions
  • Prepares reports and publications as needed
  • Assist in other specialized administrative, technical, or editorial duties connect to the research project
