Graduate Aerospace Model Based Systems Engineering Summer Internship 2026
About The Position
Gain experience for your career in the Digital Engineering & Enabling Technologies department at Draper! The Descriptive Systems Modeling Group at Draper is looking for a college graduate student who can join a Systems Engineering team and help develop SysML Models for the next generation missiles, spacecraft & autonomous vehicles that are critical for our Nation’s defense. This is an excellent opportunity for graduate students pursuing a Master’s Degree or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or related field and who would like to gain experience with modern model based systems engineering approaches. Candidates for this position should be enthusiastic to pick up new skills during the course of their internship, and the ideal candidate will be willing to pursue additional learning and training and obtain OMG Systems Modeling certification and/or further study in Systems Engineering. This internship will be onsite at Draper’s Cambridge, MA campus, with the ability to occasionally work from home.
Requirements
- Student currently working toward a Master’s Degree or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, or related degree.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Science should already be completed.
- Due to the nature of Draper's work, US citizenship is required
- MATLAB and Simulink experience.
- Ideally, the applicant will have completed a course in Dynamic Systems Modeling or Control Systems.
- Some experience with scientific programming with Python
- Ability to work and succeed within a process-oriented team
- Great verbal and written communication skills
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with aerospace systems and related sciences
- Some knowledge and interest in Systems Engineering classes and offerings at their college/university
- Interest and/or previous academic experience with SysML and Model Based Systems Engineering
- Applicants selected for this position may be required to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
Responsibilities
- Job responsibilities will vary depending on the project assignment, which is tailored to the Student's skills and the Draper project lead.
