About The Position

Portland Public Schools (PPS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate PreK Educational Assistant to support our youngest learners aged 3-5 years. This position is integral to creating a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment that fosters the development of early childhood education. The Educational Assistant will work closely with the Lead Teacher and other staff to implement high-quality, student-centered learning experiences that align with our Early Learners Core Values. The role involves direct interaction with students, facilitating guided play, and supporting individual learning goals through various activities. The assistant will also be responsible for maintaining a positive classroom atmosphere, supervising student activities, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all children in their care. In this role, the Educational Assistant will lead learning activities in both small and large groups, utilizing strategies that promote inquiry, exploration, and collaborative play. They will conduct observations and assessments to document students' developmental strengths and needs, contributing to the planning and evaluation of daily programming. The assistant will also prepare materials for curriculum support and assist in the development of playful learning environments. Additionally, they will provide physical assistance to students, including support during mealtimes and personal care routines, and implement de-escalation strategies as needed.
