About The Position
About St. John’s Prep St. John’s Prep is an inclusive, Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for young men in grades 6 through 12. Founded on the Xaverian values of compassion, humility, simplicity, trust, and zeal, we educate students to be, do and stand for good in the world. We enroll approximately 1,500 students from more than 90 communities in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. Position Overview and Responsibilities Grade 6 math/science faculty teach two sections of mathematics and two sections of science each day, focusing on pre-algebra topics and inquiry-based science (physical, life, and earth science). Faculty also serve as advisors to a group of students on their grade-level team. The Middle School program of study can be found here on our website . Skills and Competencies We are particularly interested in candidates with demonstrated effectiveness in interdisciplinary teaching, using technology as a vehicle for learning gains. The grade 6 theme is personal wellness, including sound habits of mind, a growth mindset, and the development of compassion, communication skills, and self-advocacy. Requirements
- A minimum of 1-3 years of teaching late elementary or middle school mathematics or science (or applicable practicum experience).
- A bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in science, mathematics, or a related field.
- Ability to work effectively with a diversity of learning styles and learners.
- Standing/sitting for long periods of time.
- Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
- Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, and perform first aid and CPR.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision.
- All members of the faculty are expected to give witness to our mission at St. John’s.
Responsibilities
